Food packaging;
Advantages and disadvantages.
The way you package food can be crucial. If the lid comes off, the content goes everywhere, and makes an unnecessary mess.
Types of packaging:
  • Glass packaging
  • Plastic packaging
  • Metal packaging

There are always advantages and disadvantages, for the following packaging types.

Metal packaging can be extremely handy and has strong vantage points, but like everything, there is always two sides to the story.

Metal food packaging:
(Advantages)
Metal food packaging is environmentally friendly, which is a strong selling point for most people, who are aware of the budding problems within our environment. It’s fully recyclable which is another excellent thing for the environment. Metal food packaging is completely compatible with direct contact with food, sprays, paints, etc. It seals completely, so you wont get any leaks, and is quite durable. It has good heat transfer. These are the advantages of metal food packaging.

(Disadvantages)
Corrosion is the biggest disadvantage to packaging food in metal. Corrosion is when the metal begins to go back to its original state because of oxidation, (when the metal is exposed to air and water, which causes a chemical reaction) Metal is also vulnerable to rust.
Metal is typically coated in other materials such as chromium to prevent corrosion from happening.

Glass food packaging:
(Advantages)
Glass is a popular food packaging type. It can be recycled, and it seals completely. Glass is the only product that doesn't require additional protection for food and drink. It’s oxygen and carbon proof, which means nothing goes in or out. They are microwave

Safe and heat proof.

(Disadvantages)
Glass is a fairly delicate material, and if dropped it can smash and can be potentially dangerous and messy. There is also always that chance that glass could chip off and contaminate your food.

Plastic food packaging:
(Advantages)
Plastic food packaging is an extremely popular material to use to store food. It’s light and easy, very durable and it’s reusable and cheap. In this day and age, people are struggling. They may have jobs, and be able to afford the necessities, but they often don't get many luxuries. Plastic packaging is cheap and easy, and also recyclable, which is a big selling point.

(Disadvantages)
Plastic contains many chemicals, such as BPA (bisphenol A).
Since 1936 it’s been known that BPA mimics estragon the female hormone. Tests have shown that the chemical can promote human breast cancer cell growth. Some plastics are susceptible to releasing chemicals when washed in hot water and can be potentially dangerous.
